I think it is important to first point out that your kids being bored is NOT your fault. Times have changed. We used to be able to just wander around outside until it got dark...not many parents are comfortable with that anymore. Not to mention, sometimes you can't do that due to untimely weather, illness or other things. In this guide you'll find a list of multiple different activities and things your kiddos can do to keep the boredom at bay. If they end up being bored anyways, it's okay-according to science boredom is good for kids!
Toddler Boredom Busters:
-Get crafty! Pull out the glue sticks, pom poms and construction paper! Let that kiddo bring out their inner artist and make some messy fun!
-Bath time fun! This is a personal favorite in my house! We fill the tub up about a quarter ways, put the kids in bathing suits, and let them play with water toys, boats or anything that wouldn't get damaged by the water. At the end they get into the tub with fresh, clean water and take a bath. If theres water on the floor just drop a few drops of floor cleaner and kill three birds with one stone!
- Sensory bin play. Play sand, pom poms, pipe cleaners, leaves, snow, play doh...ANYTHING can be in a sensory bin! It's all about using your imagination!
-Play a good old fashioned game of HIDE AND SEEK! Another favorite in our house! Pick a seeker, they count to 15 and YOU go hide! Find a fairly easy spot so they aren't upset and think you actually left the house
- Bake some goods, or make your own playdough! There are PLENTY of recipes on Pinterest.
-BUBBLES! I swear, bubbles are a toddlers BEST FRIEND! My toddler LOVES them! You can never be upset when bubbles are near!
Preschool & Elementary Boredom Busters:
- Set up a scavenger hunt for your kiddos. Need a prize for it? How about they get to pick the movie you watch immediately following the completion of the scavenger hunt!
- Turn on some funky music and DANCE! I suggest the TROLLS soundtrack-lots of great dance music on there!
-Make fruit kabobs or candy kabobs!
- Play a game of charades! There is a kids charades game with cards on Amazon!
-Come up with a good bedtime story and write it down, read it later that night!
-HIDE AND SEEK!
Tween and Teen Boredom Busters:
- Let them choreograph a song, and put on a performance. This is something my three older daughters would do ALL THE TIME for us! They'd complete it with cinematics, like turning the light on and off and such...it was a great memory!
-Encourage your tween/teen to write and illustrate a comic about them as a hero! What would their super power be?!
-Bake something, and let them take the lead!
- Have them make a bucket list or vision board of things they want to do and accomplish in their life!
-Learn calligraphy! Lots of tutorials on YouTube!
-Look up origami videos and make some creations!
I really hope these help! Good luck momma, and may the force be with you!
