How to Build a Leprechaun Trap

By Laurie Corbett, Assistant Publisher, Macaroni Kid Weymouth March 9, 2020

It's that time of year again! Very soon small, mischievous sprites from Irish folklore, better known as leprechauns, who usually live in rural ares of Ireland away from people, will sneak in homes and children of all ages will try to lure them into traps with gold in order to receive three wishes.

Luckily leprechaun traps are pretty easy to build with things you have around the house. All you really need is a way to lure them in - green, gold, and rainbows work well - and a way for them to fall into or be capture by the trap - and that's up to your imagination! If you don't have green paint, or don't want to deal with the mess of green paint, you can use green construction or tissue paper. If you don't have stickers you can draw rainbows with markers or crayons. Don't have gold coins? Have the kids make some out of paper. Leprechaun traps don't have to be fancy or cost a lot to build but they are a great way to encourage creative thinking, engineering, storytelling and have fun as a family!
