Blue Hills Regional Technical School Open New Restaurant

By Superintendent Jill Rossetti February 3, 2020

Superintendent Jill Rossetti is pleased to share that Blue Hills Regional Technical School's new restaurant, The Chateau, had its soft opening.

Work on the new restaurant began in June 2019 and will allow students in the school's culinary program to train and work in a live restaurant setting.

Approximately five or six students will be assigned to each area - restaurant, bakery, line or catering - and will work under the direction of their teachers. The students are trained in the role of each area, which helps them to explore their interests and develop their hospitality and culinary skills. Students are able to switch areas at the beginning of each term, which gives them the chance to work in each role every year.

During this last week's soft opening, seniors and sophomores in the culinary program worked in the restaurant, which allows for experienced students to help mentor younger students. This week, freshmen who are new to the culinary program will help out in the restaurant alongside juniors.

"We are so excited to be opening The Chateau to give our culinary students the opportunity to get valuable training toward their vocational program," Vocational Director Michelle Sylvia said. "Many Blue Hills teachers and staff members are excited to try the restaurant for lunch, and we hope the students will take pride in the food they prepare and the creative recipes they will help make."

The menu for the restaurant's soft opening features appetizers, sandwiches and salads. The restaurant also has bakery and other prepared food items available for sale during the day. The menu may expand as The Chateau continues its operation.

The Chateau is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. The restaurant's dedicated entrance is located on the east side of the building and has dedicated parking.
